Liposuction and Body Contouring – Removal of localized fatty deposits.
Both men and women have been successfully treated using liposuction surgery. Liposuction typically is performed on a patient of relatively normal body build and weight to reduce disproportionately large hips, buttocks and thighs, a protruding abdomen or “love handles” above the waist. These changes, as well as removal of fat on arms, calves, and knees, above the breasts and under the chin, often can be made during a single operation. Additionally, liposuction is often performed with such procedures as a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or breast reduction. Liposuction is can be performed on areas where there is “stubborn fat” that resist diet and exercise. Some patients choose liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) after they have undergone massive weight lost surgery or after they have lost a significant amount of weight.
In general, walking and self care are allowed at home and the patient returns home the same day of their surgery. In some very large fat removals, the patient may require an extra day or two of rest and relaxation. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. It is done under local anesthesia with sedation where the area is numbed. Dr. Azouz performs many different types of liposuction including ultrasonic, power-assisted, traditional and tumescent.
