The postoperative recovery is essential for the best results. During a consultation with Dr. Azouz, he will thoroughly explain everything you need to know about the recovery process, but just in case you’re curious, here are five postoperative gynecomastia surgery steps that Dr. Azouz recommends.

1) Wait to Return to Your Daily Exercise Routine

After gynecomastia surgery, you need to give yourself a week or two before getting back into your full daily aerobic exercise routine. This means no strenuous physical activity or exercise, allowing your body time to completely heal. However, just a few days (frequently one to two) after your surgery you will be able to add in light daily activities such as working on the computer, desk work or business meetings.

2) Wear Your Compression for your Drainless Gynecomastia Surgery

After gynecomastia surgery Dr. Azouz requires you to wear compression garments. The reason for continuous compression of the surgical area is to decrease swelling and promote proper healing. Dr. Azouz performs gynecomastia surgery without drains. During the healing process skin retraction is promoted by Dr. Azouz’s plastic surgery techniques and compression garments.

3) Good Posture Matters

Good posture is a key factor to the recovery of gynecomastia surgery. Hunching and slouching is commonly seen in gynecomastia patients as they subconsciously are trying to hide their unwanted gynecomastia. After you’re surgery you will have nothing to hide, standing up straight with your shoulders rolled back will promoted the healing process and decrease future postural problems.

4) Tissue Massage at the right time

After the first three weeks of healing (or as recommended by Dr. Azouz), you should start massaging the surgical area to help soften scar tissue which helps the skin lay flat and evenly. Dr. Azouz will advise if this tissue massage can be done with your hands or a roller. The massage routine should be done several times a day during recovery as advised by your plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz.

5) Stay appropriately hydrated

Hydration is an important factor in the healing process. The recommended daily fluid intake is 2 liters for most patients. Dr. Azouz will advise when a patient should increase or decrease their daily intake of fluid. It is important to avoid salty or fried foods after gynecomastia surgery as they can cause fluid retention and extra swelling. Saunas and hot tubs should also be avoided as they can lead to an increase in postoperative swelling. Dr. Azouz guides his patients and releases them for a variety of activities including heavy exercise and use of pools, Jacuzzis and saunas.
