What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that aims to improve the anatomy and appearance of the vulva. It most commonly reduces the size and visibility of the inner labia if they stick out beyond the outer labia. A labiaplasty can also be performed to reduce the labia majora or outer labia. Dr. Azouz removes skin from the inner labia using surgical techniques, so they no longer stick out.

Labiaplasty vs. vaginal rejuvenation

Labiaplasty very often gets confused with vaginal rejuvenation. Vaginal rejuvenation is a type of (usually non-surgical) treatment that use laser, radiofrequency, or ultrasound energy to treat the tissues of the vaginal canal. It usually has the goal of reducing symptoms like dryness or laxity because of childbirth or menopause. On the other hand, labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that concerns only the vulva. What happens during labiaplasty?

• Trim technique: The visible part of the inner labia is trimmed off and the new edge of the skin is sutured
• Wedge technique: A triangle-shaped wedge of tissue is removed from the inner labia and the two edges are sutured together to reduce its size
