Here’s a quick guide to labiaplasty and how it can help boost your confidence, contour, comfort, and more. However, the best way to learn more about this procedure is by scheduling a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. David Azouz and Dr. Solomon Azouz in their Dallas-based office.

What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that aims to improve the anatomy and appearance of the vulva. It most commonly reduces the size and visibility of the inner labia if they stick out beyond the outer labia. A labiaplasty can also be performed to reduce the labia majora or outer labia. Dr. Azouz removes skin from the inner labia using surgical techniques, so they no longer stick out.

Labiaplasty vs. vaginal rejuvenation

Labiaplasty very often gets confused with vaginal rejuvenation. Vaginal rejuvenation is a type of (usually non-surgical) treatment that use laser, radiofrequency, or ultrasound energy to treat the tissues of the vaginal canal. It usually has the goal of reducing symptoms like dryness or laxity because of childbirth or menopause. On the other hand, labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that concerns only the vulva. If you’re looking for a procedure to reduce the size of your labia, then labiaplasty is the correct procedure for you.

Why choose labiaplasty?

Large inner labia can make it difficult to feel comfortable in clothing like yoga pants, bathing suits, or lingerie.

Women with large inner labia can also experience symptoms like dryness, itchiness, or irritation. Large inner labia can produce health problems like difficulty maintaining hygiene, urinary tract infections, difficulty during sex, and pain and discomfort during physical activity. There are many reasons that women choose to get a labiaplasty, and these are just a few.

What happens during labiaplasty?

Dr. Azouz usually performs labiaplasty using a combination of local anesthetic and sedation. There are a couple of different techniques that can be used during labiaplasty, including:

  • Trim technique: The visible part of the inner labia is trimmed off and the new edge of the skin is sutured
  • Wedge technique: A triangle-shaped wedge of tissue is removed from the inner labia and the two edges are sutured together to reduce its size

At Azouz Plastic Surgery, labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day as your surgery. You’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions about washing, incision care, using the bathroom, sexual activity, and when to return to your exercise regimen.
