Do I have Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition that affects males at any age. Most men report that they have had male breasts since puberty. Gynecomastia can occur due to a glandular issue, stubborn fat, or an imbalance of hormones. It presents as female breast tissue, stubborn fat, and enlarged areolas. A simple test for Gynecomastia involves pinching the areolar and nipple and feeling for rocky, spongey, or fatty tissue in the breast.

Gynecomastia is also known as:

  • Gyno
  • Male gyno
  • Male breasts
  • Man boobs
  • Moobs

How can you tell you have Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is thick tissue underneath the nipple/areola complex. This thick gynecomastia tissue can feel like small rocks underneath your skin. An easy at-home test to see if you have Gynecomastia is to pinch the skin of your abdomen and then pinch the nipple/areola complex. If you feel harder tissue in the chest area, you potentially have Gynecomastia.

What’s the best way to confirm Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia can be confirmed on a physical exam by a qualified health care provider such as board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz. Dr. Azouz can diagnose Gynecomastia by performing a history and physical exam for confirmation. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz can also perform virtual consultations to diagnose and make plans to treat Gynecomastia. Virtual consultations with securely emailed photography and video chat allow Dr. Azouz (in most cases) to be able to confirm the diagnosis of Gynecomastia. With that being said, some healthcare providers who do not have a high volume of Gynecomastia patients in their practice will have you undergo a mammogram or ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis of Gynecomastia.

How do I treat Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia most often requires surgical intervention to remove the thick, stubborn tissue and fat in your chest. You may have noticed that your Gynecomastia remains present even with diet and exercise. Dr. Azouz performs high volumes of gynecomastia surgery in Dallas, Texas, on a weekly basis for gynecomastia patients all over the country.

Gynecomastia surgery in Dallas with board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. David Azouz and Dr. Solomon Azouz also addresses the removal of armpit fat.

How is Gynecomastia surgery performed?

Dr. Azouz uses a combination of custom-made liposuction cannulas to remove fatty tissue surrounding the chest and lateral chest wall (armpit area). Dr. Azouz also directly excises thicker tissue from the breasts during gynecomastia surgery. This is all done through a tiny incision that is camouflaged in the nipple/areola.

What kind of anesthesia is used during Gynecomastia surgery?

In most cases, male breast reduction surgery with Dr. Azouz is performed under a combination of local anesthetic and sedative medications. This means that you are breathing on your own for your procedure unlike when general anesthesia is used and a machine breathes for you. Dr. Azouz finds that his patients have a quicker recovery with less grogginess and post-operative nausea with the use of sedation and local anesthetic.

What is recovery like for Gynecomastia surgery like with Dr. Azouz?

Gynecomastia surgery performed by Dr. Azouz is done as an outpatient surgery which means you go home the same day as your surgery. You will leave surgery wearing compression garments. It is suggested that you take the rest of the day after your gynecomastia surgery to relax and recover. Many of Dr. Azouz’s gynecomastia patients return to their desk duties within the first few days after surgery. You will have post-operative appointments with Dr. Azouz in his Dallas-based location or with virtual appointments. During each of your follow-up appointments, Dr. Azouz will monitor your healing progress and will guide you back into more strenuous activities such as heavy weight lifting or exercise.

How do I know my grade of Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition that can occur in men of all ages. Fat is trapped and intermixed with firm breast tissue with any amount of Gynecomastia. With diet and exercise, the firm breast tissue (Gynecomastia) makes it very hard to lose. This unusually dense breast tissue can distort the chest and lead to unwanted aesthetic changes. Some patients can have considerable breast tissue, and their skin can sag. Gynecomastia is graded according to skin elasticity and the amount of firm breast tissue.

A highly skilled plastic surgeon can diagnose, grade, and treat Gynecomastia in all age groups. Dallas Plastic Surgeons Dr. David Azouz and Dr. Solomon Azouz are known for their techniques to correct Gynecomastia in primary and revision gynecomastia surgery in Dallas, Texas, for men of all ages and body types.

Determining the grade of Gynecomastia

Board-certified Dr. Azouz explains what Gynecomastia of varying grades looks like below.

Gynecomastia, Grade, Determining Scale,

Grade one: “mild” Gynecomastia without sagging

In mild cases, the chest looks normal and does not have excess skin. Some grading scales quantify the amount of Gynecomastia in grams, but this isn’t easy to do before the time of surgery. Therefore, most plastic surgeons define Grade one Gynecomastia as a slight or “mild” enlargement of the breast glands without skin excess.

Grade 1, Gycomastia, Dr. Azouz, Dallas, TX

Grade two: “moderate” Gynecomastia with or without some sagging

When a patient has moderate Gynecomastia but still does not have skin excess, they are usually deemed a grade 2.   This means they have more breast tissue than a mild grade one but do not have breast sag. Some plastic surgeons break upgrade twos into 2a and 2b, which means that 2bs have a minor skin excess. Regardless of the grading system, most plastic surgeons label a grade 2 as those with a “moderate” amount of Gynecomastia.

Grade 2, Gycomastia, Dr. Azouz, Dallas, TX

Grade three: “severe” gynecomastia with mild sagging

When a patient has a severe amount of Gynecomastia but still does not have extreme skin excess, they are usually deemed a grade 3.   This usually means they have more than 500 grams of fat and breast tissue within their chest.

Grade 3, Gycomastia, Dr. Azouz, Dallas, TX

Grade four: “severe” gynecomastia with “severe” sagging

When a patient has a severe amount of Gynecomastia and sagging usually deemed a grade 4, this usually means their breasts sag as a women’s would when she had large sagging breasts. A patient with grade four gynecomastia would usually have severely enlarged areolas pointing towards the floor.

Grade 4, Gycomastia, Dr. Azouz, Dallas, TX

How Can I Tell If I Have a Gynecomastia?

Early signs may include a firm or fatty tissue in the breast or a feminine appearance to the breast or areola. As the condition progresses, some patients may notice sagging to their breasts with contours that resemble a woman’s breast. Men who are dissatisfied with the look or feel of their chest should seek evaluation and treatment by a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs a high volume of gynecomastia surgery, such as Dr. Azouz.

How Common is Gynecomastia?

Overall, research shows that Gynecomastia is very common and may affect as much as seventy percent of men at some point in their lives. There are different levels of severity ranging from almost unnoticeable to severe with sagging of the breast and female appearance. Regardless of age, gynecomastia surgery can be beneficial to patients of all body types and severity.

Can I Prevent Gynecomastia?

In many patients, Gynecomastia is unavoidable and genetically inherited. Avoiding the triggers of Gynecomastia is essential even after surgery to prevent a recurrence.

What Causes Gynecomastia?

The cause of Gynecomastia varies from person to person. There are several accepted theories on what causes Gynecomastia.

The most common cause is usually genetics. When patients think of their family history, they often recognize a family member with a similar body type who also had Gynecomastia.

There are many different drugs and medications that can cause and contribute to Gynecomastia. These include:

  • Anabolic Steroids
  • Antiandrogens (Finasteride)
  • Antimicrobials (Isoniazid, Ketoconazole, Flagyl)
  • Antireflex drugs (Cimetidine, Omeprazole)
  • Cardiac Drugs (Calcium channel blockers, Captopril, Digoxin, Methyldopa, Reserpine, Spironolactone)
  • Psychiatric Drugs (Diazepam, Thioridazine, Tricyclic antidepressants)
  • Illicit Drugs (Alcohol, Amphetamines, Anabolic steroids, Opioids, Heroin, Methadone, Marijuana)
  • Drugs for HIV/AIDS (Antiretrovirals)

Medical conditions can also cause Gynecomastia. These include

  • Medical problems:
  • Androgen resistance syndrome
  • Klinefelter’s syndrome
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hyperprolactinemia
  • Kidney Disease
  • Obesity
  • Cancer

Some cases, however, do not seem to have a genetic link or identifiable risk factor.

Even in patients with no risk factors, some patients will still have Gynecomastia.

What Does Gynecomastia Feel Like?

Depending on the severity, Gynecomastia usually presents as firm, spongey or lumpy tissue underneath the areola. Gynecomastia can cause a lack of confidence and poor aesthetics in men at various severities.

How Can I Get Rid of My Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia surgery is the most effective treatment to get rid of Gynecomastia. This procedure involves liposuction and removal of the thick breast and fatty tissue.

Gynecomastia can be very frustrating as many patients report having it for many years, beginning in puberty. Most patients report being unable to improve their Gynecomastia despite effective workouts and dieting.

Daddy Do-Over in Dallas: Custom Male Plastic Surgery procedures

The number of men seeking Daddy Do-Over in Dallas is increasing every year.  More and more men are looking for the best and most experienced plastic surgeons to achieve their goals.  A daddy do-over combining gynecomastia or male breast reduction and belly liposuction is more popular than ever.  The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported in 2019 that since 2000, the number of procedures performed on men rose by 29% to 1.3 million procedures!  Dr. Azouz performs a high volume of cosmetic combination surgeries in men with a minimally invasive approach.

Although many of the most popular plastic surgery procedures (rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and liposuction) are often performed on their own, they can also be combined to reduce total downtime and save on the costs of multiple surgeries. This is sometimes called a “Daddy Do-Over,” a reference to the female equivalent of a “Mommy Makeover.”  A “daddy do-over in Dallas” can involve combing a male chest surgery with abdominal liposuction, tummy tuck, or mini tummy tuck.  Combining other plastic surgery procedures can be performed at the same time.

Daddy Do-Overs in Dallas is Highly Customizable

A daddy do-over is tailored to the man seeking cosmetic treatment. Consisting of facial, body, and sometimes male breast reduction surgeries, this unique surgical plan allows men to achieve a significant amount of improvement in a single session. Patients can pick and choose between several cosmetic procedures in consultation with board-certified Dallas- based plastic surgeons Dr. David Azouz or Dr. Solomon Azouz.

Common Aesthetic Concerns Among Men

Men typically strive for cosmetic goals that differ from those women hope to achieve through plastic surgery. Although several cosmetic principles overlap. The most popular concerns men seek to correct with plastic surgery include:

  • Liposuction – Body contouring can help men stave off the dreaded “dad bod”
  • Gynecomastia – Treating excess breast tissue can help people feel more confident both with and without a shirt on
  • Rhinoplasty – Achieving facial harmony and looking younger can be simply a matter of adjusting the shape of the nose
  • Eyelid surgery – Rejuvenating the appearance of the eyes helps anyone look more alert and younger without looking “worked-on”.
  • Male Facelift – Correcting facial wrinkles and laxity caused by aging is an effective way to take years off the appearance

Regardless of the cosmetic procedure, a man chooses, most men strive to avoid a feminized appearance. Dr. Azouz is committed to a natural, sculpted appearance with enhanced recovery and a minimally invasive technique in his male plastic surgery.

Good Candidates for a Daddy Do-Over

Although not everyone is eligible for a daddy do-over in Dallas, men who are in general good health and are realistic in their expectations are the best candidates for male plastic surgery.  The eligibility of any one person depends on the type of cosmetic surgery desired, as less-invasive procedures are typically available to a greater number of people, even those with controlled medical problems such as higher BMI (Body Mass Index), diabetes, and hypertension.

Outcomes of Daddy Do-Overs

Every man’s daddy do-over in Dallas is highly personalized and customized to address his unique concerns and conditions. There is generally overwhelmingly very high satisfaction with the daddy do-over procedure. Many men feel renewed confidence in their appearance, which can help spur a determination for a healthier lifestyle.

The recovery process after a daddy do-over varies widely by the types of procedures performed. Those who have surgeries like a tummy tuck will have longer downtime requirements than those who have more minimally invasive procedures, like eyelid surgery or liposuction. Always follow all of Dr. Azouz’s instructions for restricting activity and certain medications or substances for the best and quickest recovery process.

Men’s Plastic Surgery: The 5 Most Common Procedures for Men

More and more men account for thousands of plastic surgery procedures each year. Compared to five years ago there are twice as many men who are undergoing cosmetic procedures, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetic Society of Plastic Surgeons. As men become more and more comfortable with refreshing their look through plastic surgery, it’s normal to wonder about plastic surgical options and the best plastic surgeons to get the job done.

What are the Most Common Men’s Plastic Surgeries?

Trends in plastic surgery change over time. In the past few years, men have been interested not only in cosmetic treatments such as botox or skin care but also in plastic surgery procedures. When it comes to plastic surgery for men there are a wide variety of options. The most common are:

Liposuction

Even with diet and exercise, men are just as likely to hang on to stubborn fat in some areas as women. If you’ve lost weight, liposuction is an effective way to remove pockets of fatty tissue so you can put the finishing touches on your new body. Liposuction is extremely versatile and can be used on many different areas of the body, including the stomach, thighs, hips, back, chest, arms, and chin. There are even different kinds of liposuction, and one may suit your goals for skin tightening or minimized scarring. Dr. Azouz performs High definition body sculpting, power assisted liposuction, Safe liposuction, tumescent, ultrasonic and laser liposuction. With all liposuction types, Dr. Azouz is able to perform liposuction with a quick recovery and with twilight (sedation) anesthesia.

Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia, or “man boobs”, is a familiar experience for many men. If you’ve struggled to lose the appearance of male breasts with dietary changes and exercise, it’s likely you can benefit from gynecomastia surgery. As body contouring techniques advance, you can achieve a more masculine-looking chest with little downtime or scarring so you feel confident both in and out of clothing. Many men choose to pair their liposuction and removal of gynecomastia with abdominal liposuction (daddy do over). Dr. Azouz also performs gynecomastia surgery with a quick recovery and with twilight (sedation) anesthesia. Dr. Azouz performs gynecomastia surgery with hidden scars through a minimally invasive approach.

Male Eyelid Surgery

One area where aging can become most visible early on is around the eyes. Whether it’s the upper eyelids that sag and affect your vision or lower eyelids that create tired-looking bags, eyelid surgery can remove dark circles or excess skin for eyes that appear more awake, and youthful. The best part is that this procedure can often be performed with little downtime or visible scarring. Combining a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) with body procedures or a facelift is a great option for many men.

Male Rhinoplasty

For men, the nose is a defining feature of a masculine profile. Men who feel that their nose doesn’t fit their features can find great results with rhinoplasty, as well as those who have suffered an injury that negatively affects their breathing capability. It’s often paired with chin augmentation to balance the face and achieve a chiseled, defined look.

Male Facelift

Men looking to rejuvenate their facial appearance can undergo a facelift. This surgical procedure eases signs of aging in the face and can both target sagging skin and smooth deep folds, achieving a younger look. Dr. Azouz is able perform mini facelifts, full facelifts and double layer facelifts in men with twilight anesthesia and an enhanced quick recovery.

The Benefits Of A Good Gynecomastia Post-Op Routine

According to Dr. Azouz, the care after Gynecomastia Surgery is as important as the procedure itself. Dr. Azouz provides his patients with detailed pre-operative instructions. Gynecomastia surgery requires careful preparation and good habits following the procedure. Dr. Azouz is committed to the most comfortable recovery and the best results possible after gynecomastia surgery.

Rest often for increased Stamina

Male breast reduction with Dr. Azouz is a day surgery meaning after gynecomastia surgery, you are released to recover at home the same day. Gynecomastia surgery with Dr. Azouz is a day surgery.  Depending on what Dr. Azouz says, you may need a day or two to take it easy as your body heals and adapts to your new chest contour.

You may feel more tired during the day than usual. Listen to your body, and when it tells you to take it easy, don’t hesitate to rest or take a nap. Rest allows your body to focus solely on the healing process, speeding up recovery and allowing you to get back to normal life more quickly.

Balance your diet and hydration

Getting enough water is important on a normal day and continues to be important when recovering from gynecomastia treatment. Water is vital for the body’s proper metabolism and is a significant contributing factor in the healing process. Dr. Azouz will review hydration with you after surgery to make sure you are properly hydrated. It is important to maintain a proper fluid balance after surgery.

Similarly, keeping a healthy, balanced diet in the days after surgery provides nutrients needed for healing and simply living a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Azouz recommends avoiding large, greasy, and salty foods as these foods can contribute to swelling.

Find your new normal

For men who have lived with enlarged breast tissue, gynecomastia affects more than just their self-confidence. Some men have developed different postures to help minimize their gynecomastia’s appearance, leading to hunched shoulders and a stooped appearance.

After undergoing surgery to correct gynecomastia, a patient can often stand tall and confident, and there’s no better time to begin adjusting your posture than during recovery. Exercises to help remind you that you have a new normal include rolling your shoulders, sitting in a straight-backed chair, and thrusting out your chest when standing.

What are the best sleeping positions after having plastic surgery?

Getting enough sleep after your plastic surgery procedure is a critical part of your healing process. Sometimes, it is not easy to find a comfortable and beneficial sleeping position after your plastic surgery procedure. With that said, Dallas board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz shares some tips for the best sleeping positions depending on the body’s area that you have surgery.

Recommended Sleep positions after a facelift/ Eyelid/Brow Lift

Patients undergo facelift, browlift, and/or eyelid surgery to create a well-rested youthful appearance. After facial plastic surgery, such as facelift, browlift, and/or eyelid surgery, Dr. Azouz suggests that you sleep with your head elevated. This can be achieved by sleeping in a reclining chair or propping yourself up on a few pillows. Patients are advised to sleep on their backs versus their sides or stomachs for optimal comfort and healing.

Sleeping after plastic surgery Dr. Azouz Dallas

Best sleeping position after a Gynecomastia surgery/Poland Syndrome/ Breast augmentation/ Breast reduction/ Breast revision

There are a few plastic surgery procedures that can be performed on the chest. A few common male plastic surgery procedures that involve the chest are gynecomastia, also known as male breast reduction, Poland Syndrome, nipple reduction, and revision surgeries.  A few common female plastic surgery procedures that are done on the chest include breast augmentation, breast reduction, Poland syndrome, and breast revision surgery. After undergoing a plastic surgery procedure that is performed on the chest area, Dr. Azouz suggests sleeping on your back. While sleeping on your back after your plastic surgery procedure it is also beneficial to keep your chest elevated. Dr. Azouz suggests sleeping in a recliner position which can be achieved by sleeping in a recliner or putting a few pillows behind your back to help keep your upper body elevated.

Suggested sleeping position after a Lipedema/ Liposuction/ Thigh lift

Dr. Azouz performs many procedures on the lower part of the body. A few popular plastic surgery procedures include lipedema, liposuction of the legs, and thigh lift surgery. Each of these procedures can improve the aesthetic appearance of the legs. After undergoing lipedema, liposuction of the leg, or a thigh lift Dr. Azouz suggests that you sleep on your back with your legs elevated. While you are sleeping the easiest and most convenient way to elevate your legs is to place four or five pillows under your legs.

Getting enough sleep is important for normal daily living, but it is a key factor in your healing process after plastic surgery. Will Breast Augmentation surgery help with Pigeon Chest Deformity?

Pigeon chest deformity, or Pectus carinatum, can leave women feeling self-conscious about their appearance. Thankfully, women have plastic surgery as an ally to minimize the appearance of the prominent sternum. Patients with pigeon chest deformity might undergo breast augmentation surgery to reduce the appearance of a bowed-out chest. Breast augmentation can often camouflage deformities of the chest wall. Breast augmentation surgery in Dallas with plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz can enhance a woman’s body image, recover self-confidence, and disguise the chest’s deformation.

What is Pigeon Chest Deformity?

Pigeon chest deformity is medically known as Pectus Carinatum. This congenital deformity occurs when the sternum protrudes outward, causing the ribcage and sternum to bow out. Some patients may also have depressions on the side of their chest. About one out of every 400 women has Pectus Carinatum, and the condition can result in asthma or other breathing problems but does not affect other functions, including those of the heart or lungs. Fortunately, breast augmentation surgery in Dallas can reduce the pigeon chest’s appearance and provide the patient with better life quality.

Can a Breast Augmentation surgery correct Pectus Carinatum?

Some patients with severe Pectus Carinatum will require surgery to correct the positioning of the sternum or ribcage. For other patients, the deformity does not cause severe medical issues, but patients may be dissatisfied with their chest appearance.

Women with pigeon chest deformity can, in some cases, disguise the appearance of this condition with breast augmentation. Strategic placement of suitable sized implants by plastic surgeon Dr. Azouzcan camouflage a pigeon chest appearance.

Choosing Breast Implants

When selecting implants to disguise the appearance of pigeon chest deformity, Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. David Azouz often recommends a high-profile implant. High-profile implants are taller than they are wide, meaning those implants project away from the chest, and consequently, further from the sternum. Besides, implants are placed behind the pectoralis muscle, a technique known as subpectoral placement. This further distracts from the projection of the chest wall in patients with Pectus Carinatum. Finally, the implants should be sufficient in size to reduce the appearance of the pigeon chest without being too large and out-of-proportion with the patient’s frame. Determining the correct implant size for the patient with pigeon chest deformity will be determined during a consultation with Dr. Azouz.

Patient care after Breast Augmentation surgery for Pectus Carinatum patients

Breast augmentation is a safe procedure. Patients with Pectus Carinatum are advised to take additional precautions after their surgery to maintain their results. Dr. David Azouz will instruct you on specific compression brassieres for optimal recovery after breast augmentation.

Are you bothered by Gynecomastia? In Dallas, gynecomastia surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgery for men looking to attain ideal chest contour.  Men commonly report that gynecomastia surgery can enhance their self-image and confidence.   “Man boobs”  or “Gyno” can be bothersome to those men who are trying to wear tight fitting clothing or be in public without a shirt on.  Male breast reduction surgery removes the extra fat and tissue, tightens the skin, and sculpts to create a masculine chest.

Dr. David Azouz is a premier Dallas plastic surgeon who is American board certified and is highly experienced in Male Breast Reduction.  Dr. Azouz helps patients with enlarged male breasts from Dallas, throughout Texas and for those gynecomastia patients in neighboring states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico.  It is not uncommon for patients to travel from throughout the world to have gynecomastia surgery with Dr. David Azouz.  Dr. Azouz performs gynecomastia surgery on men and boys of all ages, from pre-teens to teenagers to older men in their 60s and seventies (and those in between!).

Do I Have Gynecomastia?

There are many reasons for Gynecomastia or enlarged male breasts. Some men are affected by Gynecomastia while they are teenagers, this phase of hormonal surges can cause the growth of male breast tissue. Other causes may be excess weight gain or the use of certain medications. Unfortunately, some patients are not able to get rid of Gynecomastia in adulthood, even though they exercise frequently.

Despite the many medications, hormones, drugs and supplements that are risk factors for Gynecomastia the most common cause is thought to be GENETIC.

The cause of Gynecomastia is usually a genetic predisposition and gynecomastia tends to run in families.  Pseudo gynecomastia can be caused by weight loss but most men will usually have a combination of gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia.

Typically, gynecomastia is present in both breasts and forms a disc-like mound of tissue under the areolar complex. It is also possible for some to have unilateral or asymmetrical breasts.

Men’s Plastic Surgery in Dallas: Dr. Azouz reviews and explains why more men are seeking plastic surgery than ever.

Plastic surgery for men is becoming increasingly popular.  As times have changed, more males are having cosmetic plastic surgery and investing in their faces, chest, and bodies.

Men’s cosmetic surgery has expanded in both the volume and public interest.  Plastic surgery in men is incredibly popular today and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction), placement of pectoral implants and abdominal liposuction are some of the most popular procedures among male plastic surgery patients.

One thing is clear the taboos are over:

Men want their bodies and face to look the best that they can.

The many options for plastic surgery procedures can be enlightening for men and can help boost confidence and encourage a better self-image. Let’s review examples of male plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery for more men.

Male Plastic Surgery for the Face:

Blepharoplasty, male eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the eyelids.

This facial cosmetic surgery for men is one of the most requested procedures. It involves the removal of excess skin on the upper eyelid and the removal of the eye bags that appear under the eyelids.

The main benefit of eyelid surgery is that on the one hand, it eliminates the feeling of “looking tired”, can improve vision and can provide a younger look.  Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. David Azouz performs the surgery in such a way that there is no perceptible scar.

The key to eyelid surgery in men is to avoid feminizing the eyelid.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Azouz focuses on providing men a natural and masculine look with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).  Another benefit of eyelid surgery is that it can improve the symmetry of the face and remove dark circles under the eyelids.  Some patients can have improvements in their vision if the skin is blocking light reaching the eye.

Neck lifts are another of the most requested cosmetic surgeries for men.

A neck lift or inferior rhytidectomy is incredibly popular in both young and older men. Both younger men and older men seek to remove their double chin through neck liposuction and desire a stronger jawline via a chin implant.  Increasing the strength of the jawline and removing the double chin can provide an overall more masculine look and a slimmer appearance.

Neck Liposuction can provide a slimmer and more masculine appearance.

Older men often desire a traditional neck lift, whereby Dr. Azouz removes excess skin and jowling of the neck.  Dr. Azouz utilizes a hidden incision around the hairline of the patient’s ears while not altering the hair of the beard or sideburns.   Dr. Azouz conceals the incisions around the back of the ear, which hides scarring.

Dr. Azouz uses advanced liposuction techniques in neck lift and facelift patients.  Removing platysmal bands can also be performed in either a neck lift or a facelift.

Men’s plastic surgery: rhinoplasty (nose job), a classic of cosmetic surgery.

Rhinoplasty can provide dramatic results by remodeling the nose to provide a more cosmetic and symmetric appearance.  A nose that is in harmony with the rest of the face can provide a more aesthetic look.  Rhinoplasty is used to remove a prominent nasal hump, refine the tip of the nose and can correct asymmetry.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty can also be combined with functional rhinoplasty to improve breathing. With functional rhinoplasty, Dr. Azouz can straighten the nasal septum and reduce the nasal turbinates.  These techniques can improve airflow through the nose, can improve a man’s sense of smell and can even reduce the incidence of sinusitis.

The fact is that more and more men are seeking rhinoplasty for both functional and cosmetic improvements.

Male Plastic Surgery for the Chest:

Eliminating male breast tissue with men’s cosmetic surgery: gynecomastia and liposuction.

Gynecomastia in men is incredibly common and can be attributed to many medications, hormones, steroids, and marijuana use.

Liposuction and removal of gynecomastia (male breast reduction) is the best surgical solution for patients who have an increase in breast tissue who want a flatter, more sculpted chest or are bothered by prominent or puffy nipples. Gynecomastia surgery is well tolerated and is performed under local anesthesia and sedation on an outpatient basis.

Most men choose to remove gynecomastia and then work out to build up the pectoral muscles.  Male pectoral implants are commonly used for patients with Poland syndrome or for those who have significant chest asymmetry.

Dr. Azouz performs liposuction and removal of gynecomastia with quick recovery, without drains and with camouflaged incisions.

Male Plastic Surgery for the Body:

Liposuction for men is used to eliminate the accumulated fat in certain areas of the body that is stubborn and hard to lose with workouts. The most frequent areas treated are the abdomen, hips, and flanks. In men, it is common to find this accumulation of fat in the abdomen and iliac rolls as compared to the leg.  Liposuction is associated with quick recovery and is performed with local anesthesia and sedation.

Tummy tucks and lower body lifts are common for men who have lost significant weight or have had bariatric surgery in the past.  A tummy tuck can be used to remove excess skin, stretch marks and scarring.  Many men choose to perform a tummy tuck at the same time they have their rectus diastasis or hernia repair performed.  A tummy tuck can be combined with male breast reduction (gynecomastia) surgery or with liposuction.
