Laser Skin Resurfacing in Dallas with CO2

Laser skin resurfacing in Dallas can lead to the most dramatic improvement in skin quality and wrinkle treatment. The skin is susceptible to being damaged by aging, sun exposure, nutrition, lifestyle, and even genetics. However, the skin can improve with revolutionary new techniques to restore its youthful appearance.  Laser resurfacing can be especially helpful in patients who have acne scarring and premature aging.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz provides a comprehensive approach to improving the skin of the face, neck, and body by offering a variety of procedures.  Contact Dr. Azouz for a consultation by calling 972 702 8888 and take the first step to reveal beautiful and healthy skin.

What is Laser skin resurfacing with CO2?

Skin resurfacing in Dallas using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is a recent development in cosmetic enhancements, and the results are similar to a chemical peel or dermabrasion. The biggest difference between these treatments is the laser removes skin layers by vaporization rather than chemicals or a special dermabrasion device. This treatment is safe for delicate skin such as around the eyes and mouth and targets deep lines and wrinkles from sun damage, aging, acne scars, or other scars.

Am I a candidate for Laser skin resurfacing?

Candidates for laser resurfacing include men and women who are interested in improving the quality, tone, and texture of their skin. Dr. Azouz’s patients report a significant improvement to the appearance of their face in regards to fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and texture.

Laser skin resurfacing benefits

Patients undergoing laser skin resurfacing will benefit from:

  • Improving fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone, and texture
  • Diminishing acne scarring, age spots, and pigmentary changes
  • Recovering skin tightness
  • Reducing pore size
  • Improving melasma y rosacea

How CO2 laser skin resurfacing is performed in Dallas?

First, Dr. Azouz will cleanse and numb the treatment area to prepare the patient for the procedure. After the numbing gel sets, your treatment should feel like minor needle poking. A CO2 laser provides short bursts of high-energy laser light to the skin, which instantly vaporizes the damaged skin, one layer at a time. Then as the remaining skin heals, it is replaced with healthy, intact skin. During the procedure, Dr. Azouz will determine your desired changes and offer individualized treatment controlled by the depth of penetration of your skin.

This technique makes it possible for the treatment to be done on the most delicate facial areas, such as around the eyes and lips. C02 laser treatment is safe on the eyelids because Dr. Azouz uses special laser contact lenses to protect the eye coupled with numbing eye drops. This ensures that the procedure is comfortable even in this sensitive area.

Anesthesia during Laser skin resurfacing

Sedation varies according to a patient’s needs to afford the safest and most comfortable experience possible.

Laser skin resurfacing recovery

For skin resurfacing with CO2 lasers, the recovery time is generally one week or less but is dependent on a patient’s needs. Patients are generally dressed for healing after the procedure. Some patients may need to apply ointment daily but Dr. Azouz utilizes the most advanced dressings to enhance the recovery and comfort for an optimal experience. In any case, Dr. Azouz will provide specific aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results. Since C02 treatments are customized to the patient’s particular needs, downtime and recovery may vary. For deeper treatments, more healing and downtime may be necessary. As a general practice, you can expect 3-5 days of downtime.

Combination of laser skin resurfacing with other cosmetic surgeries

Many patients can improve their skin appearance with a combination of laser skin resurfacing with a facelift, eyelid surgery, and skincare.

Laser skin resurfacing cost

The cost of laser resurfacing is very dependent on a patient’s needs.  Some patients prepare for a laser resurfacing procedure with Retin-A and Hydroquinone which is inexpensive and may only cost a few hundred dollars.  Patients with mild wrinkles, pigmentary change, and acne scarring may only require skincare.

A laser resurfacing offering the most dramatic and best improvement to the skin typically will cost in the thousands and is not an insurance covered procedure.

Laser skin resurfacing results

Patients will notice important changes in their skin after laser skin resurfacing. With this treatment, patients can renew their facial appearance by minimizing deep lines, tighten sagging areas, and improve skin tone, texture, and discoloration in just one single session.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs

How does Dr. Azouz prepare the skin before a peel or Laser resurfacing?

Dr. Azouz often recommends using Retin-A and hydroquinone in order to “prep” the skin before a laser resurfacing or before a peel.
Retin-A has been shown to smooth the skin, increase the amount of hyaluronic acid, thicken the epidermal layer of the skin as well as decrease melanin (found in skin exposure and age spots). Retin-A also can cause regression of many premalignant lesions of the epidermis. Retin-A can improve fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydroquinone helps to prevent melanin depositing in the skin by blocking the conversion of dopamine to melanin. Hydroquinones can help prevent hyperpigmentation.

What is the difference between Retinol and Retin-A?
Retinol is Vitamin A and is the precursor product to Retin-A. Retin-a (all-trans retinoic acid) is the active form of Vitamin A. The disadvantage of Retinol is that it is destabilized by light, oxygen, and water and is, therefore, less bioactive than Retin-A.

What does LASER stand for?

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser is different from natural light as it is coherent, monochromatic and intense. Coherent means that all the waves of the same frequency and do not spread out (spatially and temporally in phase). Monochromatic means the light is of one color and are a precise bandwidth. Intense mean the Laser light delivers the greatest amount of energy per unit area.

How does a laser clinically improve the skin?

An ablative laser removes sun damaged or aging tissue by removing it in a controlled fashion from the outside in and allows the body to deposit new collagen. Acne scars can be improved by ablative lasers through the same principles.

Non-ablative lasers target specific layers of the skin and can remove vascular malformations or tattoos in a controlled fashion without affecting the epidermis of the skin (outer layer).

Does Dr. Azouz use special dressings after laser resurfacing.

Yes, Dr. Azouz often utilizes a special dressing and ointment after laser resurfacing to protect the skin and keep the patient comfortable.
