What are the best sleeping positions after having plastic surgery?
Getting enough sleep after your plastic surgery procedure is a critical part of your healing process. Sometimes, it is not easy to find a comfortable and beneficial sleeping position after your plastic surgery procedure. With that said, Dallas board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz shares some tips for the best sleeping positions depending on the body’s area that you have surgery.
Recommended Sleep positions after a facelift/ Eyelid/Brow Lift
Patients undergo facelift, browlift, and/or eyelid surgery to create a well-rested youthful appearance. After facial plastic surgery, such as facelift, browlift, and/or eyelid surgery, Dr. Azouz suggests that you sleep with your head elevated. This can be achieved by sleeping in a reclining chair or propping yourself up on a few pillows. Patients are advised to sleep on their backs versus their sides or stomachs for optimal comfort and healing.
Best sleeping position after a Gynecomastia surgery/Poland Syndrome/ Breast augmentation/ Breast reduction/ Breast revision
There are a few plastic surgery procedures that can be performed on the chest. A few common male plastic surgery procedures that involve the chest are gynecomastia, also known as male breast reduction, Poland Syndrome, nipple reduction, and revision surgeries. A few common female plastic surgery procedures that are done on the chest include breast augmentation, breast reduction, Poland syndrome, and breast revision surgery. After undergoing a plastic surgery procedure that is performed on the chest area, Dr. Azouz suggests sleeping on your back. While sleeping on your back after your plastic surgery procedure it is also beneficial to keep your chest elevated. Dr. Azouz suggests sleeping in a recliner position which can be achieved by sleeping in a recliner or putting a few pillows behind your back to help keep your upper body elevated.
Suggested sleeping position after a Lipedema/ Liposuction/ Thigh lift
Dr. Azouz performs many procedures on the lower part of the body. A few popular plastic surgery procedures include lipedema, liposuction of the legs, and thigh lift surgery. Each of these procedures can improve the aesthetic appearance of the legs. After undergoing lipedema, liposuction of the leg, or a thigh lift Dr. Azouz suggests that you sleep on your back with your legs elevated. While you are sleeping the easiest and most convenient way to elevate your legs is to place four or five pillows under your legs.
Getting enough sleep is important for normal daily living, but it is a key factor in your healing process after plastic surgery.
