Blepharoplasty typically is performed to remove excess folds of skin, pouches under the eyes and, in some instances, is accompanied by an additional procedure to correct sagging eyebrows. One or all of these changes can be made during a single operation. The extent of the procedure depends on what changes are desired and what your surgeon deems appropriate. The exact location of the incision will be based on your surgeon's judgment. On your surgeon's recommendation you may be operated on an out-patient basis or you may be admitted to a hospital.

The surgery may be performed under a local anesthesia with sedation. Medication to relive tension is given before the anesthetic is administered. The sedative and local anesthetic allow you to be comfortable during surgery. If a general anesthetic has been administered, you will sleep through the entire operation. The elimination of sagging, superfluous skin and fatty tissue around the eyes presents a younger, rested appearance.
