Ultrasound Assisted Lipoplasty - Permanent removal of localized fatty deposits.
Both men and women have been successfully treated using this procedure. Suction-assisted lipectomy typically is performed on a patient of relatively normal body build and weight to reduce disproportionately large hips, buttocks and thighs, a protruding abdomen or "love handles" above the waist. These changes, as well as removal of fat on arms, calves, and knees, above the breasts and under the chin, often can be made during a single operation.
In general, walking and self care are allowed at home or in the hospital the day after the operation, and are encouraged after most operations. In some very large fat removals, the patient may require an extra day or two of bed rest. The surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, or in a hospital, depending on the physician's and patient's preference. It can be done under local anesthesia with sedation where the area is numbed and the patient remains awake. Premedication is administered to help the patient relax. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes for one site.
